IT'S THE LAW

Teller County requires the licensing of all dogs residing in the County jurisdiction and over four months of age. Licenses are issued annually and they expire one year from the date of issue. All issued licenses are entered in a database tracking system which is provided to the Department of Animal Control in Teller County. If a licensed dog is picked up by an animal control officer, a quick search through the database will provide the necessary identification to reunite pet and owner. All proceeds from license fees are provided to TCRAS, and help offset the shelter operating costs.

Licenses can be obtained at TCRAS or from any of the locations listed below:

          Animal Medical Center

          Compassion Animal Hospital

          Animal Clinic of Woodland Park

          Teller Park Veterinary Hospital

          Woodland Veterinary Clinic

          Woodland Park City Hall

          County Clerk/DMV Office

Licensing fees are as follows:

$10.00 for spayed or neutered dogs

          $30.00 for unaltered dogs

Dog owners who are 65 years of age or older are required to license their dogs; the fee is waived.
Several local veterinarians conduct annual vaccination clinics and licensing drives during the months of January, February and March. TCRAS volunteers are present at these clinics to sell licenses.

OWNER RELEASE

release1

When accepting the responsibility of getting a pet, one of the things you must consider is what will happen to it if something happens to you. Although there are times when a person has no alternative, relinquishing your friend and companion to a shelter should be the last resort. For a pet that has lived in a loving home with a family, the shelter atmosphere can be very frightening and lonely. A shelter may have a caring staff doing the best they can, but your pet will not get the personal attention that you were able to provide. It is especially difficult for an older animal. They are less likely to be adopted and face the possibility of living out their life in a kennel with no person of their own to love.

TCRAS can only accept an owner release when space is available and retains the right of refusal based on the animal’s behavior and health. TCRAS has an array of outside resources and will provide a contact to check for shelter availability. Additionally, we can place animals needing homes on our website and add them to our adoption book, for a $10 fee. The animal must be spayed or neutered and vaccinations must be current. Vaccinations can be done at the shelter for a fee. Owners must provide a photo of the animal or bring it to the shelter, so a photo can be taken. TCRAS will handle phone calls in regard to making arrangements for the owner and prospective adopter to meet. The fee for adoption will go to the shelter.

Owners releasing their animals to the care of the shelter must complete an Owner Release Form and provide the shelter with documentation of shots, spay or neuter and/or other medical treatment as well as a full behavioral description of the animal.

The fees for an owner release are as follows:

$ 35.00  For a spayed or neutered animal with proof of current vaccinations

Additional fees may be added for any procedures that are not completed.

$ 35.00  For a litter of puppies or kittens.
